10 Long-haired Cat Breeds: Sociable And Balanced
There are very many long haired cat breeds that have been artificially bred by humans in recent years. Some breeds are very similar in that they were created through crossbreeding.
In the cat world you can find cats with long, half-length and short hair. The Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe) is responsible for classifying the breeds according to specific standards.

Long-haired breeds of cats
Long-haired Persian cat
The long-haired Persian (cover picture) is a medium-sized cat that can weigh up to eight kilos. Your head is large and wide in relation to the rest of your body. The face is short with large round eyes and a small flat nose. Their legs are short and their tail is very bushy.
Their fur is long, very abundant, dense and soft, and requires a lot of brushing. The Persians have different colors: white, orange, blue … The good thing about her is that she is calm, domestic, sociable and loving.
However, you have to watch out for your weight: being overweight can exacerbate many health problems. This breed is prone to kidney failure and low fertility.
Long-haired cat breeds: Himalayan
The Himalayan is very similar to the Persian cat, but its coat pattern is like that of a Siamese. The British Shorthair is also descended from the Persian breed.
Long-haired cat breeds: American Curl
This breed has only been around since the 1980s. The most distinctive thing about the American Curl is its ears that point backwards.

It is a large cat with a strong body. As the name suggests, this cat is from Russia. The fur is very dense, resistant to cold and water. The most common color is brown with tabby fur patterns, although there are other color combinations.
The Siberian cat is affectionate and sociable. She is also a very intelligent and agile cat who likes to climb and play with water.
Cats with half-length hair
They are long-haired cats, but with a slightly shorter coat than the previous ones. Still , they need to be brushed regularly.
Maine Coon
It’s a big cat, maybe the biggest of them all, because it weighs about 4 to 10 pounds. Their lynx ears are the most distinctive feature of this breed.
She is balanced, calm, sociable, dominant but not aggressive, loving, playful and adaptable. It takes up a lot of space, so it is advisable to have a garden as it is very active and likes to climb.
Norwegian forest cat
Another big cat, weighing up to nine kilos and very active. It is very similar to the Maine Coon.
Birman cat
She is a calm and balanced cat, playful and very sociable. In reality, she cannot endure loneliness. Their eyes are blue and their fur always has the same pattern, the so-called point with gloves.
Ragdoll
The Ragdoll is a cross between an Angora and a Birman cat that also has blue eyes. It even resembles the Birman cat in character. Because she is docile, sociable, loving and doesn’t like to be alone.
Turkish Angora
The most common color is white. The eyes can be two-tone, blue and green. She is a balanced cat, calm, playful and very sociable. She likes water and is recommended to keep her in a spacious house.
Somali
Her fur is dense and soft and she has tufts of hair on her ears. She has a distinctive coat color and a wild appearance typical of this breed. Their eyes are green or gold in color and the very large ears are tilted forward.
