The first film and its sequel were shot with a Saint Bernard named Chris. He was hired specifically for this film, but died shortly after the second film was finished.

Lassie is one of the  most famous dogs in the world. The original was written by British author Eric Knight as a short story that was filmed for cinemas in 1943.

The first dog to take on the role of the main character and bring this character to life was “Pal”. He died in 1958 and was later succeeded by his direct descendants.

101 Dalmatians, 1961

 is an animated film by Walt Disney from 1961. It tells the story of “Pongo”, an adult Dalmatian who starts a family with “Perdy”, a female Dalmatian. The owners of the two dogs are called Roger and Anita.

However, this happy family idyll is soon threatened by a vicious, eccentric woman named Cruella de Vil. Her plan is to capture the dogs and their pups in order to create the most luxurious coat in the world using the fur of the dotted Dalmatians.

The Dalmatian family and their owners have to get to safety quickly to escape the evil Cruella de Vil.

Scott & Huutsch, 1989

This American comedy from 1989 starred Tom Hanks, Mare Winningham, Craig T. Nelson and Reginald VelJohnson among others.

The film is all about Scott Turner, a reticent detective who is very concerned about an orderly life, but which is turned upside down when he has to work with the drooling Bordeaux mastiff “Hooch”.

Daily fun challenges develop the relationship between the detective and his assistant into a great friendship.

Marmaduke, 2010

It’s a fun family comedy with animations.  Important changes are imminent for Marmaduke as he moves with his family to California, where he falls in love with Beverly and experiences various adventures.

My Cold Nose Partner, 1989

This is an action comedy from 1989 with James Belushi and Mel Harris in the lead roles. The film was written by Steven Siegel and Scott Myers and directed by Rod Daniel.

It’s about a San Diego police officer who gets a German Shepherd as his new assistant who is trained to track down drugs.

Wolf’s Blood, 1991

Among the countless dog films, the film adaptation of the American writer Jack London stands out. “Wolfsblut” is also the name of the main animal character, a domestic dog that is kidnapped and has to use its primordial instincts in order to survive and grow up in the forests of Alaska.

There are several versions of “Wolfsblut” made for the cinema, the most famous of which is the 1991 film adaptation with Ethan Hawke.

Winn Dixie – A shaggy friend

It’s the story of a lonely girl who takes in an orphaned dog, whom she calls “Winn Dixie” (after the supermarket where she found him).

As the relationship between the girl and her special boyfriend gradually emerges, the people of a small Florida town find each other, while at the same time the strained relationship with her father improves.

Antarctica – Trapped in the Ice, 2006

The real-life film tells the story of three scientists who are forced to abandon their beloved sled dogs due to an unexpected accident and terrible weather conditions.
