90-year-old woman travels the United States with her dog

An old widow diagnosed with cancer by doctors decided to get into a motor home and tour the United States with her dog Ringo. Sounds like a Hollywood script, doesn’t it? But it’s a true story nonetheless. Her leading actress is called Norma and is a 90-year-old woman who travels through the North American country with her dog, son Tim and daughter-in-law Ramie.

Of Pain and Hope: The Story of Norma, Ringo, Tim and Ramie

Woman and dog

Two days before the death of her husband Leo , the old woman was found to have tumors, possibly in the ovaries or uterus.

Doctors suggested treatment that consisted of surgery followed by radio and chemotherapy. Instead, Norma decided to move her home on wheels and get to know her country.

So it came about that she got into the trailer with which her son, daughter-in-law and the dog Ringo had already traveled a large part of the United States. And since then Norma and the dog have become inseparable.

The benefits of having a pet

It is scientifically proven that living with pets is very good for people’s health.  Basically, people who own a pet are happier and healthier. In the case of the elderly, pets become especially important as they help them avoid loneliness and depression. If we have a dog, this will help us:

  • To become more resistant to allergies.
  • Regulate blood pressure.
  • Reduce stress.
  • Finding the motivation to exercise.
  • Regulate cholesterol levels.
  • To reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Having more chances of surviving a heart attack.

And it all seems to indicate that Ringo and his family are great medicine for Norma. Despite the many years of life and the illness she was diagnosed with, she appears happy and content in her new life.
