5 Exotic Cats
Due to their striking appearance, their rarity and also the novelty of the breeds, these exotic cats attract our attention. In our article we tell you more about the unusual cat breeds.
Exotic among the cat breeds
Maybe you are looking for a pet that nobody else has or you want something completely different from what you are used to. These exotic cats are therefore a great way to enjoy the company of a velvet paw, but at the same time to show a lot of originality.
Some of the races were created through natural mutations and others through human influence.
1. Sphynx cat
This exotic was created at the end of the 1970s and is characterized by its lack of fur. Actually, the layer of fur is so thin and short that you don’t really notice it.
Due to the lack of protection of the fur, this kitty is also very sensitive to cold and sun.
Furthermore, the Sphynx cat has a proportionally small head and large, pointed ears. Because of her large eyes, her gaze is very haunting.
2. Savannah cat
If you’ve always wanted a big cat at home but obviously couldn’t, then this breed of cats may be for you. This is one of the new exotic species, because this breed has only been officially recognized since 2001.
The Savannah cat was created by crossing domestic cats with various African wild cats. Therefore, one could confuse their spotted fur with that of a leopard or an ocelot.
It is also a large animal compared to other cats. She can weigh up to 15 kilos (the normal weight of domestic cats is four kilos).
3. Scottish Fold Cat
This really is one of the most exotic breeds as it is thought to have no ears.
However, they do have some, even if they are very small and fall over.
The Scottish exotic was created by crossing a Swedish female with a British short-haired male.
However, due to the same mutation that makes them look so cute, the animals also suffer from arthritis from a young age. It is an extremely painful condition.
The Scottish fold-ear cat seems like a cuddly toy, it has a very pretty face, is friendly and calm-minded and gets along very well with children as well as other animals.
4. Khao Manee cat
This breed comes from Thailand, where it has been known for centuries. Her name means “white jewel”, but she is known worldwide as the cat with the diamond eyes. That’s because they are two different colors (blue and green).
In addition, the Khao Manee cat has completely white fur, a muscular and athletic physique and a curious, intelligent, very communicative character.
5. LaPerm cat
The last one on our list of exotic cats was “accidentally” created by a natural mutation in just one kitten in a litter. This happened in the USA in 1982.
At birth, the cat that LaPerm founded appeared just like its sibling, but it had little fur.
Her first litter consisted of five tomcat kittens with wavy, very soft fur in different colors. Their tail is very thick and furlier than the rest of the body.
The LaPerm is characterized by its active, friendly and very cuddly character.
