Insects are really annoying and can spoil a trip outside. Plus, there’s no doubt that mosquito bites cause itching. We therefore recommend various recipes for homemade  mosquito repellent.

Make mosquito repellent yourself

While there are many highly effective mosquito repellants on the market, most contain harmful chemicals that are harmful to health and the environment. That is why natural alternatives are worthwhile.

We recommend the following:

1. Citronella

Insects don’t love this aromatic plant at all. So you can keep annoying pests away. The best thing to do is to buy a citronella plant for your garden.

You can also get candles or incense sticks scented with citronella and use them on the patio or in the garden.

2. basil

Often used in Mediterranean cuisine, this aromatic plant is used to deter mosquitoes as well as flies due to its strong odor (which is fragrant for us).

You only need two tablespoons of dried basil leaves and half a liter of water. Put everything in a saucepan and cook for 20 minutes.

Then let it rest for four hours. Sieve and pour into a spray bottle. You can use this home remedy on curtains, sheets, clothing, and in the room.

3. Eucalyptus oil

It is one of the best mosquito repellants. It also clears the airways when you have a cold. You can get eucalyptus oil in natural stores.

You need a diffuser or a glass bowl. Add 15 drops of eucalyptus oil and light a candle to  release its aroma.

Some take this oil with them when camping or on trips. It is spread on the skin to prevent the insects from approaching. It can even be mixed with the shampoo or cream you use regularly.

4. Clove

This effective mosquito repellent can be used by the whole family, especially children, as it is neither toxic nor harmful.

It’s very simple: put 30 cloves and two cups of water in a saucepan.

Cook for 20 minutes, remove from heat and let rest for two hours. Then filter and mix with the shampoo, hair conditioner or ordinary body cream.

With this you can protect yourself from mosquitoes.

5. Chamomile

Both chamomile and lavender are two effective repellants against mosquito bites. In addition, there are plants with very beautiful flowers, so that they decorate the terrace, balcony or courtyard perfectly.

The scent of chamomile and lavender is very strong and unbearable for insects such as flies and mosquitoes. You can make an infusion with two tablespoons of flowers and half a liter of boiling water.

Let it steep for six hours, strain and pour into a spray bottle. Simply spray in the room, on the door, window, clothing, etc. So you can drive away the annoying summer guests in your house!
