The Oldest Dog In The World Is Dead

Unfortunately, our beloved pets do not live forever, at some point the time to say goodbye will come. But some dogs surprise with a particularly old age. We have a very special story for you here …
The oldest dog in the world is dead

Even if we wish to spend as long as possible with our beloved furry friend, it is a sad certainty that dogs live to be around 15 years old at best . Even more surprising, however, is the news that the world’s oldest dog has died at the age of 30.

Meet Maggie, the oldest female dog in the world

Maggie was an Australian Kelpie who lived with a family of dairy farmers in Woolsthorpe, a small town in Australia. Although the bitch already suffered from many age-related complaints (vision and hearing problems), she was still active until two days before her death. She was still walking and couldn’t help barking at the many cats that lived with her in the yard.

Her owner, Brian McLaren, says Maggie died in her basket while she was sleeping.  Although this made him very sad, he is very happy that his beloved pet did not suffer.

Although Maggie is considered to be the oldest dog in the world, her owner Brian cannot provide any documents that prove the dog’s old age. But one thing is certain: when Maggie moved in with the family as a little puppy, their son Liam was just four years old. Today Liam is 34 years old.

Even if Maggie cannot be included in the Guinness Book of Records due to the lack of documents, she is considered to be the oldest dog in the world at 30 years of age.

Why Maggie is not officially considered the oldest dog in the world

Since Brian McLaren lost the documents that confirm Maggie’s old age, the dog Bluey still officially holds  the title of oldest dog in the world in the Guinnes Book of Records.

Bluey was an Australian cattle dog who died in 1939 at the age of 29 years and 5 months and who was reputed to herd sheep for over two decades

The Japanese dog Pusuke is also in the Guinness Book of Records at the age of 26 years and 9 months and showed great appetite until one day before his death in 2011 and was still walking his daily walk. In 2008, despite his old age, he had successfully recovered from surgery after being hit by a car.

Give your four-legged friend a good life without counting the years

When we love our pets wholeheartedly and they become part of our family, it is not age that counts, but the time when one can enjoy mutual company and tenderness.

It is nice  to know stories of dogs who, despite their difficulties and problems in old age, led a good life until the last moment and in the end were able to peacefully fall asleep forever.

It is also important for us to learn to let them go in peace and to be sure in good conscience that we have done everything for them to always offer them the best and to make them happy.
