Numerous taxi drivers who are very animal-loving have started an initiative to transport dogs in taxis at no extra charge. This project, known as the mascota (pet), was started by Mario Honrado in Madrid.
As it was very successful, it was also copied in many other cities.
For example, in the city of Saragossa there is the service of Taxiguau and in Barcelona ChoferMASCOTAS or Dogtaxi. There is also a similar initiative in Malaga, which was launched by a taxi operator and is sure to be just as successful.
Dogs can also ride in a taxi in Mijas and Fuengirola. This service was initially planned for residents, but has now also become a plus point for animal-loving tourists.
Benefits of dog taxis
Initially, it was required to transport dogs in a taxi in transport cages or bags, but this has now changed. If you want to take the dog with you in a taxi to go for a walk or go shopping, a transport cage is of course extremely annoying.
It is therefore very advantageous if the dog can be taken in the taxi without any accessories.
A special bag or transport cage is no longer mandatory. A safe dog harness that can be hung on the harness is sufficient to transport the dog. This of course makes the whole thing a lot easier.
Call a taxi, dogs are allowed
If you are on vacation in Spain and want to call a taxi that also allows dogs, you can simply call the taxi office and ask for this service, because not all taxis are yet participating in this initiative.
The taxi office will then take care of sending an animal-friendly taxi.
The dog-friendly taxis are equipped with a blanket on which the animal has to sit in order to guarantee the cleanliness and hygiene of the seats.
In addition, these taxis have a device to buckle up the dog, thus guaranteeing its safety and also complying with legal requirements. After the taxi ride with the dog, the taxi is cleaned and the blanket is replaced so that other guests can also be perfectly served.
With these initiatives, it is becoming easier and easier to take the loyal dog with you everywhere, even on vacation.
